A Sound Explosion got started in the field of sports announcing. It was some 9 years ago that the Santa Cruz Surf Kayak Festival grew to the point of needing an announcer. Richard volunteered for the post and from that day he hasn't looked back.
Every year the Santa Cruz International Surf Kayak Festival draws participants from all over the world to compete in some of the best conditions possible at Steamer Lane. With over 200 competitors and a venue that spans over 1 mile, in a variety of weather conditions, this event is always a challenge. Richard has anchored the Race for Treasure, a open water kayak race on San Francisco Bay which starts at Jack London Square in Oakland circles around Treasure Island and returns to Jack London Square.
Just up the coast from Santa Cruz at Waddel Creek, Richard announces
for the Waddel Surf Sail Challenge. This is the west coast's premier windsurfing event.
Frolicking in the waves with 25+ knot winds always makes for interesting commentary.
